How to add a wordpress follow button to your self-hosted blog

Most of the bloggers I have been fortunate enough to meet blog with WordPress.com as opposed to having a self-hosted blog and the only way they keep up with their blogs is with the WordPress follow me button.

I struggled with getting this button on my blog for over 24hours till it finally stuck. If you want a WordPress follow button on your self-hosted site, here is the easiest way to do it.

Install the official Jet pack plugin on your blog and activate it. Simply go the plugin area, click on add new and search “Jetpack.”

After installing and activating it, you will need to connect it to your WordPress.com site. If you do not have a WordPress.com site, you will be prompted to create one. Creating a WordPress.com site is very easy and can be done under one minute.

Jet pack has various pricing models; I suggest you stick to the basic version which is forever free to use.

The next thing you’ll need to do is to make sure the JSON API is activated on Jetpack. To know if it’s active, go to your Jetpack dashboard and click on “debug” at the bottom of the page.
